While the airshow was still 10 months away, volunteers were being asked to step forward now to get started as with a show this size everything needs to be organized well in advance. According to Mo there are many roles that need to be filled by volunteers, stating: “There are as many as forty different areas such as media, merchandising, ticketing, program sales, looking after the VIP zones and others.”
Warbirds Over Wanaka Event Manager, Mandy Deans, said people could register their interest for volunteer in person at the airshow office at Wanaka airport or online by contacting the organization through the WOW Website.

In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent.
